Women, single and partnered, too often find themselves in a zipper quandary, again and again … and again. There once was an inspired Independent Woman who was not one to complain. She had a need and eureka… a solution: create an elegant chain with a functional hook that would allow zip-ups without assistance. She would call her creation, Zip-Her!
Zip-Zip Hooray! Turns out, the name was the easy part. ZipHer had to be as visually pleasing as it was practical. The Independent Woman envisioned a combination of industrial brass with oversized pearls, topped off with a curvaceous hook, a tool both sexy and significant. After countless futile consultations, configurations, and variations, she was about to give up when Superman came along…….
In cyberspace, Superman somehow fixes computers. From across the country, sometimes the world, he scurries around the screen like a cursor ghost on steroids. When he heard about the Independent Woman’s failed attempts, he urged her to let him try his hand at developing this seemingly simple, yet challenging, product. He was an engineer by training; surely, he could come up with the perfect prototype.
The technical part of the team started gathering parts and hardware to create prototypes. Testing designs proved daunting since Superman didn’t own a little black dress, so the variations were shipped back and forth to be tested on real women.
There were several obstacles to overcome: the size of the pearls and the diameter of the holes, the thickness and shape of the hook, how to attach the chain, and many more. Once the design was agreed upon, it was tested for strength with a 40-pound weight, ensuring the hook would keep its shape and not break while zipping up SPANX-worthy dresses.
The team worked for over a year to perfect ZipHer and make it the Audrey Hepburn-chic, aesthetic, useful tool it is today. A fashion illustrator was commissioned to create an original ZipHer girl. Finally, the Independent Woman and the Engineer were ready to launch their product. They formed PrimaProductions LLC to manufacture, market, and sell ZipHer. What was once a frustration had become a solution, made in the USA, and enjoyed by over 4,500 women worldwide.
